Singing excerpts from Nizar Qabbani’s seminal poem “I Love You, I Love You, & the Rest Will Come” :: http:// www.nizariat.com/poetry.php?id=285

lyrics

Nizar Qabbani verses:

Translation:

Allow me to pour you some tea
Have I told you that I love you?
Have I told you that I am happy you arrived?
And that your presence astounds me
Like the arrival of a poem
And like the arrival of ships
Carrying memories of loved ones from afar ...

Allow me to say it in every language
Those which you understand ... and those which you don’t
I love you.
Allow me to find the vocabulary
That is suitable enough to capture my affection for you
And to find the words
That can cover the expanse of your bosom
with water & herb & jasmine
Allow me ...
Allow me to think about you & long for you & cry & laugh for you
And close the gap between imagination & certainty

Allow me to pour you some tea
Have I said that I love you?
Have I said that I am happy that you arrived? And that your presence astounds me
Like the arrival of a poem
And like the arrival of ships
And Memories from afar
And Memories ...
Allow me to say it in Every language
Those which you understand ... and those you don’t I love you.

“Did you enjoy the tea?”
